A pool deck finish should work for the people using it and the team maintaining it.
Review a sample for the intended wet conditions and barefoot use. Agree on any specified slip testing. More aggressive texture changes cleaning effort; no coating is slip-proof.
Identify sunlight, weather, pool chemicals and cleaning products before selecting the system. Colour and surface temperature also deserve attention on an outdoor deck.
Plan around drains, wall junctions, coping and thresholds. Preserve drainage and functional movement joints. Include compatible cleaning and future maintenance in the handover.

The work beneath the finish
Pool deck refinishing starts with a surface that can support the new system. Painting over loose material leaves the underlying problem in place.
Review existing coatings, concrete condition, moisture-testing needs, cracks, ponding, drains and access. Confirm whether the deck is on grade or elevated.
Remove unsuitable coatings and weak material. Grind or otherwise profile the concrete to the chosen manufacturer's requirements; use adhesion trials where appropriate.
Repair the agreed spalls and stable cracks, detail edges and transitions, then install the specified primer, resurfacing layers, texture and protective finish.
Confirm the finish and restrictions before reopening. Provide cleaning guidance, maintenance expectations and the applicable written warranty terms.
Plan the closure
The schedule accounts for removal, repairs, coating intervals and cure conditions. Outdoor work also needs a suitable weather window.
Agree on access, furniture removal, pool protection and which areas close. Confirm water management, work-area separation and conditions needed for application.
Coordinate preparation and coating stages. Phased work may suit some larger facilities when separation, safe access and curing requirements allow it.
State separate waiting periods for foot traffic, furniture, sustained wet use and chemical cleaning. Completed installation and full service readiness are different milestones.
Budget and written scope
Price depends on the measured area, coating removal, concrete repairs, access, moisture conditions and selected finish. Drainage correction or a waterproofing assembly can change the scope substantially.

An epoxy base can be part of a suitable system, but the whole assembly must be selected for exterior wet-area use. Review the substrate, moisture, UV exposure, texture and compatible finish. A UV-stable topcoat alone does not make every underlying system suitable outdoors.
Often, when the remaining concrete is sound enough for a bonded system. Failed coatings and weak material need removal; cracks and spalls need an agreed repair scope. Significant settlement, structural movement or active leaks require separate assessment before resurfacing.
The right slip-resistant finish balances wet traction, barefoot comfort, drainage and cleaning. Review the selected system's wet-area suitability and a representative texture sample, with any specified testing. No pool deck coating removes every slipping risk.
Do not assume either is a suitable coating base. We assess adhesion, movement, trapped moisture, drainage and removal requirements. Rubber can move differently from a rigid resin finish; tile and grout may conceal weak layers. Removal to sound concrete may be the appropriate scope.
Surface temperature depends on colour, material, sunlight and local conditions. Review lighter colours and product information where heat under bare feet matters. We do not describe a standard resin coating as a certified cool-deck product.
The required closure depends on removal, repairs, the selected chemistry, application conditions and curing. The proposal should state when foot traffic, furniture, wet use and chemical cleaning can resume. Discuss your available window before the system is finalized.
A decorative coating should not be assumed to provide the designed waterproofing for an elevated deck. Such assemblies may need a specified pedestrian traffic membrane and consultant-directed joint, drain and termination details.
